Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the Application of principles of Physics for Analysis. Manufacturing and Maintenance of Mechanical Systems. It requires a solid understanding of key concepts including Mechanics, Kinematics, Thermodynamics and Energy. Mechanical Engineers use these principles and others in the Design and analysis of Automobiles, Aircraft, Heating and Cooling Systems, Manufacturing Plants, Industrial equipment and Machinery, Medical devices and more." The Department offers B.Tech degree course in Mechanical Engineering in Undergraduate level with an intake of 60 students.

Mechanical Engineering Laboratories
The Department has the following laboratory facilities,
1. Basic Engineering Workshop has the facilities for basic training programme in Fitting, Sheet metal, Welding, Carpentry, Foundry, Smithy etc.
2. Heat Engines laboratory has advanced test rigs like Turbo charged engines, CRDI Engines, MPFI Engines, Air Blowers, Reciprocating and Rotary air Compressors, Fuel and lubricant testing units.
ALLIED TECHNOCRATES OF MEX(ATOM)
The mechanical branch association of JIT, ATOM (Allied technocrats of mex) was inaugurated on 21st October 2016 by Dr. Ajith Prabhu V,Joint director, KSCSTE & Director, CSTED. It provides the leadership to organize various activities that will enhance the self confidence and horizon of knowledge of the mechanical engineering students in their field of study and help them to develop various interpersonal skills needed for securing a good job.
